Windows 2008/R2 “Windows could not prepare the partition…”

• Server 2008 and/or R2

On the Windows 2008 disk partition install, I get the error “Windows could not prepare the partition selected for installation”.

1. Boot to Command Prompt and type in the following
2. diskpart
3. list disk
4. select disk <disk number>
5. detail disk
6. select volume <volume number>
7. delete volume
8. Repeat steps 3 through 7 for every disk/volume you have then in the command prompt type the following
9. select disk <disk number>
10. convert basic
11. repeat steps 9 through 10 for every disk
12. exit
13. reboot and start the installation again.
